Blog > Summer Fun in Charlotte
This week’s scorching hot temperatures have us thinking about Summer fun in the Charlotte metro. Even though the year’s hottest season doesn’t officially start for another week, we can still find fun ways to spend our time in the Queen City. Thanks to our friends at Axios Charlotte, they’ve compiled the ultimate bucket list. Read on for a few ideas on how to have the most fun in Charlotte this summer.
River Jam Concert
Every summer, the U.S. National Whitewater Center is the place to be. They host live music EVERY Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings from 7-10pm in a series they call River Jam Concerts. Every genre is represented from rock to bluegrass and there are additional activities throughout the evening like food trucks and yoga classes. It’s all free to enter, just pay $6 bucks to park.
Movies Under the Stars
On Friday evenings, the beer garden at Brewers at 4001 Yancey will show a free family-friendly movie. Grab dinner from the taproom while you enjoy both the movie and the free provided popcorn. Movies are meant for all-ages and start at 7:30pm.
Hike Up a Mountain

Just a quick half-hour drive from Uptown Charlotte you’ll find the hiking trails of Crowder’s Mountain. This popular Gaston County destination brings all the joy of hiking without a full day’s trip to Asheville. There are several different options to get to the summit depending on how much time you have. Choose Rocktop Trail for a longer, more leisurely option and pick Backside Trail if you want a quick, straight-up climb to the top. It’s always free with plenty of parking options. Trails are open 8-9 every day and tend to be less crowded in the morning. Bonus: on a clear day, you have a stunning view of the Charlotte skyline.
