Statesville, North Carolina

Believe it or not, even though it sits equidistant between Winston-Salem and Charlotte, the town of Statesville is considered to be part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Metro. It might seem further away than it is but in reality, Statesville is a mere 45-minutes from Uptown. This quick hop, skip, and jump makes it so that you can have your cake and eat it, too. You can live outside the city while still having access to the city.

As the county seat for Iredell County, Statesville has a storied history stretching all the way back to the 1700s. The area was developed by European settlers around 1753, when they arrived to take advantage of the rich and fertile soil. Water was plentiful and crops grew easily. Shortly thereafter, Fort Dobbs was established for “frontier defense,” named after the North Carolina colonial Governor Arthur Dobbs. Archeological remnants of the fort were discovered in the early-2000s. The site is now operated by the North Carolina Division of State Historic Sites and Properties. It is a popular educational destination offering living history demonstrations and holds the designation as the state’s only historic site related to the French and Indian War.

Statesville locals love to honor their history as well as celebrate their present. Festivals abound with the wildly popular Carolina Balloon Festival, the Statesville Pumpkin Fest, and the Full Bloom Film Festival. All of these events draw crowds of people from all over the region and make living in Statesville exciting and enriching.

In the Heart of it All

Geographically, Statesville could not be more ideal. You’re 4-hours from the coast, 90-minutes from the mountains, and 45-minutes from big cities like Charlotte and Winston-Salem. There are wide open fields, rich Piedmont soil, and quick access to everything Lake Norman has to offer.

One thing Statesville is particularly good at is exuding that warm hospitality that has become synonymous with the South. Area restaurants, shops, and places of business give off that “down-home” vibe and makes Statesville a great place to live and work. Need proof? Just wander into any downtown business and you’ll immediately be treated like family. Enjoy lunch or treats at 220 Cafe, Broad Street Burger Co., or Andrea’s Ice Cream & Sweet Shop.

Daveste Vineyards offers wine-tasting fun. The Farmer’s Market, held at Pecan Park, is great for a weekend stroll. Or pack up the family for a fun-filled day at Zootastic Park. Weekend activities abound in Statesville!

Ranking giant Niche gives Statesville an A for ethnic and economic diversity among its residents. Additionally, two Statesville high schools (South Iredell High School and Collaborative College for Technology and Leadership) are ranked in the top-100 public high schools in all of North Carolina.
