Blog > Color of the Year

It’s that time of year again! Every January, color specialists and paint companies alike share their Color of the Year! Benjamin Moore has announced that their Color of the Year for 2022 is “October Mist” (Chip number 1495). This cool silvery green is described by Benjamin Moore as the “stem of a flower.” And we can see why!
In recent years, gray has had a sort of renaissance. In fact, it’s not uncommon to see gray walls, gray kitchen cabinets, and gray flooring… sometimes all in the same room! To avoid color faux pas such as those, real estate experts are weighing in on just how you should use October Mist in your home.
Use It In a Guest Space
Perhaps you love the color but don’t want to use it in your day-to-day living areas. Experts suggest using October Mist to paint a guest bathroom. Because of its relaxing and spa-like quality, your guests will feel at peace whenever they come to visit. Additionally, because it is such a calm neutral, you can decorate around it with pops of seasonal colors. Summer? Accent with yellow towels! Fall? Try decorating with bare branches or colors of changing leaves.
Pair It With White
In small spaces like mud rooms or entryways, gray can sometimes go dark. The opposite happens if you pair it with a bright white! Designers recommend using October Mist as an accent wall surrounded by bright whites. The light will reflect off of the white, making those spaces feel bigger, while the pop of gray adds a unique feature.
In a Bedroom, Keep it Simple
Like we said before, October Mist has a serious relaxing quality, and where does one want to be more relaxed than their bedroom?! Color absolutely impacts how restful your sleep is and how at-peace you feel in a space. I don’t think many people sleep well in neon yellow, that’s for sure! That’s why experts recommend colors like October Mist in a restful space. Create an atmosphere of calm going into 2022. We all sure need it!
