Blog > Most Desirable Cities
According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, nearly 8 million people moved across state lines in 2021. This is a trend that is continuing into 2023 and you may be wondering about the cities that are drawing the most attention from out-of-state people. Thankfully, the wonderful data analysts at Realtor.com have compiled a list of the 10 U.S. cities where everyone is wanting to move right now. And wouldn’t you know it… one major North Carolina city made the list.
According to Realtor.com economist Jiayi Yu, the writer of the report, Americans are, “grappling with high home prices, rising mortgage rates, and inflation—so they are eager for a deal.” This list is largely comprised of metros located in the South and Midwest because those cities are seeing home prices at or below the national average. Cities along the West and East coasts just didn’t make the cut because their median list price is above the national average, which is what the vast majority of buyers are trying to get away from.
The List
Topping the list of 10 most desirable cities right now is Phoenix, AZ followed by Chicago, IL.

We mentioned that one North Carolina city made this list. Is it Charlotte? Why, of course it is! Is anyone surprised? The Queen City draws attention for its varied industries, from banking and finance to tech and hospitality. Not only are property taxes lower than other major US metropolitan areas but the home prices are still hovering right at (or just ever so slightly below) the national average. Median list prices for homes in Charlotte sits right at $439,000 whereas the national median list price is $440,000.
