Emotional Goodbyes

Have you recently sold your home and the entire process has you, as the youths say, all up in your feels? This is a totally normal feeling! After all, the walls of this home provided shelter and protection as well as millions of memories. It may not be as easy as closing the door behind you and driving off into the sunset. Here are some sweet ways to say goodbye to the home that took such good care of you. 

Go Room By Room

This can be a fun way to say goodbye to your home as a family. Everyone shares their favorite memories of what happened in that room in particular, while you all reminisce and perhaps laugh (or cry!) a bit. It could be the time your family did a TikTok challenge and got whipped cream stuck to the 12’ foot ceiling in your dining room or that time your youngest learned to play the Harry Potter theme song on the piano just by ear. 

Commission Art

There are TONS of talented people in this world and there may be no more fitting tribute than to commission a painting of your home by someone local. If you want someone in your immediate area but don’t know where to look, consider contacting a local art guild or even a gallery space. They will have contact info for you! Another option is to search “painting commission” on a website like Etsy to start communicating with an artist that offers that service. All it takes is uploading your favorite photo!

Gather Seeds

Another unique idea is to gather seeds from your favorite plants in your yard, or to collect cuttings. This will give you a great way to remember your former space by bringing some of it with you to the new one. Then, every time you enjoy shade from a tree, a flower cutting, or an item from your garden, you can appreciate everything in life that brought you to that moment… including your former home.
