Memorial Day on LKN

Memorial Day is THIS weekend and Lake Norman & Charlotte have no shortage of festivals, ceremonies, and celebrations. If you’re looking for something to do this weekend then look no further than these fun and family-friendly options!

Memorial Day Weekend Block Party 

Lake Norman “Social District” will play host to a whole day of block partying on Saturday, May 27. The Lake Norman Social District isn’t one individual location, it’s actually a series of locations that have partnered up to create one cohesive experience. Old Town Public House and Thigs Cocktail Bar, both of Catawba Avenue in Cornelius, created the Social District, which allows customers to take alcoholic beverages between the two venues, and enjoy them outside, within a designated area. Their Memorial Day block party goes from 1pm on Saturday until midnight. It will feature live music, local vendors, kids activities and inflatables, outdoor games, as well as food trucks and a wide variety of beverages. 

Whitewater Center

Another area favorite is a visit to the U.S. National Whitewater Center. Every Memorial Day weekend they offer a unique trail run race. There are two options for the Saturday, May 27 races: 5-miles or 8-miles, all through the beautiful woods of the center. Races start at 8am and then the rest of the day you’ll be able to enjoy a variety of yoga classes followed by live music in the evening. Cornelius

Lastly, we would be remiss to post without mentioning why we observe Memorial Day in the first place: it’s a day to say thank-you to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. The town of Cornelius will be holding a Memorial Day Observance ceremony at 10am on Monday, May 29th on the lawn across from the Cornelius Veterans Monument at Rotary Plaza.
