A recent report published by Forbes Advisor states that about two-thirds of Americans are pet owners and nearly 80% claim that they consider their pets’ needs when looking for a neighborhood in which to rent or buy. Forbes used that information to compile a list of the top 10 best cities in which to be a pet owner. One North Carolina city made the list.

Was it Charlotte?

The cities that made the list did so for a number of reasons. Whether it comes down to dogs, cats, or feathery, scaly, or otherwise furry friends, these cities boast good access to affordable veterinary care, offer plenty of pet stores, as well as lots of options for pet-friendly patios, parks, and walking trails.

Ultimately, Forbes chose from 91 large US cities from which to compile their list. The ultimate winner went to Tucson, AZ. The No. 2 spot goes to our North Carolina city. While it’s not Charlotte, it is our neighbor to the east: Raleigh.

That doesn’t mean that Charlotte and Lake Norman isn’t a great pet-friendly place. Quite the opposite, in fact!

Cornelius is home to Lucky Dog Bark & Brew. This 21+ dog park and sports bar is wildly popular with the locals. Your pups can socialize, play, and get out all their zoomies while you catch up with friends, and watch the game with a few beers. Not only is it a great option for play but you can also bathe and board your dog there too!

For longer walks and hikes, the trails at Latta Nature Preserve in Huntersville are all pet-friendly. There are 16 miles of trails for you and your pet to enjoy, so long as they remain on a 6’ or shorter leash and that you clean up after them.

Birkdale Village in Huntersville is also a well-known pet friendly destination. You’ll notice so by the dog water bowls outside shops and several shady patches of grass to relax. Most restaurants in Birkdale Village allow for dining with your dog on the patio, notably Red Rocks Cafe and Killington’s.

Lake Norman might not have made the Forbes Advisor list but that doesn’t mean we aren’t a great location to consider when finding a new home for you and your pet!
