Blog > Local Strawberry Picking

In case you didn’t know, North Carolina is the third largest producer of strawberries in the United States! So when the weather hits just right, families love to get outside to visit these great local farms and sometimes even pick their own berries. Read on to find out all about our favorite farm in and around the Lake Norman area: Carrigan Farms!
Carrigan Farms in Mooresville, NC grows over 5 acres of u-pick strawberries! The season usually opens to the public in the middle of April and runs through late May. However, strawberries can be fickle and conditions greatly impact the opening of the season. That means there’s no official opening date, just a general working timeline. The best part of that is that when it IS time to pick those juice berries, no reservation is needed.
It is recommended to refer back to Carrigan Farms social media pages and website for the announcement. Then, when it’s time, expect the usual: weekend crowds and lighter attendance during the week.
Carrigan Farms is a 5th generation farm passed down through the family since the Carrigans settled in Mooresville. The original family came to the area in the 1750s, though this particular farm has been in the family since 1902. Throughout the year they also offer apple and pumpkin picking as well as a Halloween event called ‘Scarrigan Farms’. They also operate an event space perfect for weddings, parties, reunions, and picnics.
A visit to Carrigan Farms on a sunny spring day, your chin stained with strawberry juice, will show you just why we love this place so much and know that you will, too.
