A brand new Hallmark Christmas movie is being filmed at a famous North Carolina landmark. Is it in Charlotte, or even Lake Norman? Well, no, not quite, but once you hear the location you’ll understand why. It’s none other than the world famous Biltmore Estate mansion in Asheville!

“A Biltmore Christmas” will begin filming next month as reported by entertainment news organization Variety. The movie will be filmed in its entirety at the Biltmore Estate. There really is no better place to film a holiday movie! Construction on the home began in 1889 for the elite Vanderbilt family. They hosted their first party open to the public on Christmas Eve in 1895.

Today, it’s a major tourist attraction, even more so during the holidays where the annual lighting of the tree draws hundreds of people to the mansion.

What We Know

“A Biltmore Christmas” will star Bethany Joy Lenz of One Tree Hill fame (yet another famous North Carolina show) playing Lucy Collins. According to Variety, Lucy Collins is a screenwriter hired to remake a beloved classic holiday movie that was filmed in 1947 at the Biltmore Estate. She goes to Biltmore to do research and is drawn to a beautiful hourglass inside the house. She accidentally knocks it over and is transported back in time to 1946, during the filming of “His Merry Bride.” The star of the 1946 film is Jack Huston, who is drawn to Lucy and the two eventually fall in love. But her presence in the past threatens the production of the movie, and she must make things right or “threaten to alter the future forever.”

Visiting the Biltmore from Lake Norman is a quick 2-hour drive and worth every second of it. Make it a point to visit so you when the movie premiers you can say, “I was there!”
