Blog > Negotiating in NC

Though the sticker shock of 2021 is slowly starting to decrease, many would-be buyers in today’s housing market are still hoping for cheaper homes. For the past three years, prices have skyrocketed or homes that seemed reasonably priced entered into bidding wars that drove the final sales price up, up, and up some more. Recently, Realtor.com analyzed nationwide data to determine places where one might realistically be able to negotiate a home price. One North Carolina city made the list.
Is it Charlotte?
No, it’s not. Nor is it a part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg metro area at all. It’s Rocky Mount! In fact, not only is Rocky Mount on the list… but it took the No. 1 spot. Realtor.com compiled the list by looking at cities that had experienced big price swings over the past few years and a marked decrease in demand in 2022. What this means, essentially, is that the housing market appears to be out of touch with reality. With higher mortgage rates and fewer people leaving cities for the suburbs (now that most places are back to in-person work), more homes in metro areas are sitting.
This leads to the thought that they might be overpriced and due for a negotiation.
Here’s the full list of cities where you could likely negotiate a deal:
- Rocky Mount, NC
- East Stroudsburg, PA
- Concord, NH
- Eau Claire, WI
- Lakeland, FL
- Elizabethtown, KY
- Kingston, NY
- Santa Cruz, CA
- Myrtle Beach, SC
- Columbia, MO
