Trottin' Turkeys

Are you the type of person who feels better about a big Thanksgiving meal only after they’ve gotten their workout in for the day? Or, perhaps, the whole family likes to get out and about in our beautiful community and celebrate the holiday in their own way. Then you’re not alone! Lake Norman is positively teeming with Thanksgiving Turkey Trot runs! Here are our three favorites: 

Lake Norman Turkey Trot

This family-friendly event is always an area Thanksgiving Day favorite. This particular race, originating in Cornelius, has a variety of distance options: a 5k, 10k, and a half-marathon! They begin at 8:30am, 8:15am, and 8:00am, respectively, and take off from 20010 Chartown Drive in Cornelius. Spectators are welcome and costumes are always encouraged. Mooresville Turkey Trot

Get your heart rate pumping and support a good cause during the Mooresville Turkey Trot. Registration fees for this race are considered donations, with proceeds going to benefit the Mooresville Area Mission. They provide clothing, shelter, and help fight poverty for local families. There are two distances for this race, a $40 5k going from 8:30-10:30am and a $20 fun-run aimed at kids aged 10 and under. Registration ends 11/23 and of course, the race takes place on Thanksgiving Day at 266 N. Broad Street in Mooresville. Register here! 

Davidson Turkey Trot

This newest local tradition is celebrating only its 2nd year in 2022!  Join family, friends, and neighbors of all ages on Thanksgiving morning for this 5K benefit walk/run.  The official 5k event course runs through beautiful Davidson and will be timed and scored by Queen City Timing. 

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Davidson Community and beyond through Rotary Club of Davidson and Students Offering Smiles. This race is $35 and begins at 8am at 119 S. Main Street in Davidson. Find more information on the race website.
