When Toronto real estate agents Carla and Gladys Spizzirri got a phone call that a 96-year-old woman was finally ready to sell her beloved West Toronto home, the Realtor sisters jumped at the chance. With the Toronto real-estate market in a huge boom, they knew the house located in a highly desirable neighborhood would sell fast, and likely for a large sum.

The story became more interesting when the homeowner revealed that she had lived in the home for more than 70 years without making any major renovations. What could this mean? Would the house be in disrepair? Could it be falling apart? Would the listing price be near what Carla and Gladys had imagine?

Stepping Back In Time

What they found was a complete time capsule. The homeowner, 96-year-old Joye, had taken absolutely immaculate care of her West Toronto home. Hardly going beyond updating furniture or decor. It was a page taken straight out of the mid-1950s.

The rooms were decorated to perfection with authentic mid-century furniture, plush carpeting, floral wallpapers in keeping with the times. The whole house simply glowed with calming pastels, almost like an Easter Egg.

Essentially, the home was branded and listed as a novelty home, filled to the brim with immaculately preserved mid-century furniture, appliances, and light fixtures. Everything had been perfectly preserved.

In this instance, un-touched did not mean un-sellable. The three-bedroom brick home located in Toronto’s Old Mill neighborhood, where Joyce and her husband moved in during the height of WWII, listed for a cool $700,000.
