Located just north of Charlotte in the town of Statesville, you’ll find a much adored annual event… the Carolina Balloon Festival! Every third weekend in October, the skies over Iredell County are dotted with colorful hot air balloons in this whimsical, family-friendly event designed to benefit local non-profits.

As their website states, “The 47-year-old festival has deep roots in the local community, both through its actions as a non-profit and its local aviation history. In 1974, a small balloon rally that would eventually become the Carolina BalloonFest began at Rhyne Aerodrome near Love Valley, North Carolina.  The National Balloon Rally attracted pilots from across the country who filled the North Iredell skies with their colorful hot air balloons for many years.”

Happening this October 14-16, balloons will launch twice daily: early morning and late afternoon. There are also ballooning activities on site like static displays, tethered rides, and balloon flights. A weather-depending skydiving display is also scheduled! Also enjoy axe throwing, ninja courses, food trucks, and artisan vendors.
